Human trafficking has become a huge issue in our society, as well as globally. This issue is definitely something that we need to work on preventing and correcting interdependently. Thousands of women, girls, and men throughout the world are being sexually trafficked and trafficked for labor. These people are also abused by the traffickers every day. About thirty million people in the world are trafficked each day. This issue is very close to me, knowing that it directly affects so many girls my age or close to my age. It makes me feel for these young women and girls, knowing how hard it must be to face such a deep issue like that. their lives have been permanently affected, emotionally and physically. I hope that more people will realize just how difficult something like this must be for these women, men, and children, and help in the cause to stop human trafficking. Most global initiatives are trying to raise awareness about human trafficking, but there don’t seem to be as many that are trying to prevent and stop traffickers. My artwork shows a young girl that appears to be beaten and abused, with her fist close to her heart. She has a tattoo that reads: “ for sale,” and below that reads: “Inside, she’s broken,/ but her lips are sealed./ She’s getting stronger,/ but for all the wrong reasons” Her mouth is closed shut with stitches and printed across her mouth is: “her lips are sealed.” At the top, another poem is written, that says,”She’s broken./ She’s silent./ She knows she can’t speak,/ But still, she’s hoping/ That soon,/ It will all be over. “Human trafficking” is written many times on the left, and “Stop it now” is written many times on the right. I would definitely like to spread awareness about the issue with my artwork, but I hope it also inspires people to think about how difficult it is for people being trafficked, and even inspire people to start projects of their own concerning human trafficking.

A lot of people today can’t accept other people for who they are and I believe this is a significant issue to address. This is really important to me because I don't think it is fair for someone to wake up knowing they will may be judged or ridiculed for who they are. I think we should celebrate the fact that we get to learn about people who are different from us. Everyone is unique; therefore, diversity should be celebrated. In order to portray this in my hexagon, I used multiple colors and different items to represent the differences in all of us. I made my hexagon abstract because I think we’re all different and in some ways all of us are abstract. The items I used to create this hexagon were oil pastels, pipe cleaners, scraps of paper, a nail, fluff, glitter, and magazine cuttings.

The world wide significance of the endangerment of tigers is that if they go extinct it will affect the entire ecosystem by taking out a top predator. It is important to me because I think they are beautiful animals and that all animals should be safe and not be endangered. The media I used to create this was colored pencils. In my hexagon I used orange and black to symbolize A tiger. I also used a picture of a tiger.

Many of the animals are endangered today or even extinct.  So many people aren't doing anything to help the environment. Snow-Leopards have vey few living and they may even become extinct. Therefore, if everyone did a little something to help the environment we could make a big difference in the world.

I used colored pencils and regular pencils to draw this, because there are a lot of colors and it is easy to erase if you make a mistake unlike markers or pens. Also you can blend colors easily without smudging the drawing.

The drawing shows the impact as well as the solution to pollution. Pollution affects biodiversity, spreads diseases, trash not being deposed properly, less resourses. Many governments including the United States and China are trying to find green opportunities, and limit and eventually end production of chemicals that harm the environment. Many other people are trying to help including many organizations devoted to the cause, famous people like the first lady, and many corporations. Around the last decade the amount of people recycling has doubled, and energy usage has gone down. Showing that people are starting to understand the problem and are taking action.

My drawing shows a haze covered city with a near by polluted river, and all the plants around the city is brown and dead.  Then on the other side represents the green alternative, the windmills, which are blowing away the haze representing the green opportunities replacing the old harmful ways of getting energy and getting rid of trash. Lastly, I used the leaves on the buildings as symbols for the green revolution.

Pollution is the worst in Beijing. In Beijing the waterways are filled with trash and people have to wear masks because of all the smog. The effects of pollution affect every living thing on earth.

Pollution is a problem because it kills animals, plants and, bio diversity. It causes diseases to spread like wildfire, and all animal life including use will die because of no plants for food and oxygen. We will run out of natural resources because they are polluted.

There are many organizations that are helping end pollution like friends for change, Earth 911, stop Global Warming, Earth island institute, and many more.
They help by raising awareness, raising money for green projects, promote green alternative energy production, promote recycling, and come up with ideas to help end pollution.
I would help by raising awareness, help build solar farms, windmills and recycling plants, raise money for projects, promote awareness of recycling and green energy sources, and lastly raise awareness of electric cars.
There’re many words that describe words for solutions for pollution like: reduce, reuse, recycle, wind farms, solar farms, electric cars, thermal energy, natural gas, and green alternatives.  There was once a wise man who said:

“It has been written that the meek shall inherit the earth. What is not written is that they shall inherit it after the greedy and the selfish have already polluted the air, fouled the water and poisoned the food chain. The actual moral of the parable is stand up for yourself, for our planet and for all who dwell in it.”

Animal Abuse really touches me. People can actually hurt and abuse animals and really not care at all. I can't even imagine about doing that. I think that if we can start a chain reaction, starting with this, we may be able to put a stop to animal abuse. It's my dream to put a stop to it so hopefully it will.

Colorful Education

The media that I chose in this work of art was colored pencils and markers.

My work of art shows the importance of learning and getting an education in all countries of the world.  Many children don’t receive a good education and I believe that everyone deserves an equal chance to do his or her part for the world.

On my hexagon I drew flags of all different countries of the world in the background because kids in all places deserve to get an education.  I also drew all different school supplies that children all over the world should be able to use to help their learning experience.

Universal Ambition

The media that I chose for this work of art was paint and Sharpie markers.

My work of art shows the inspiration of finding a solution to the global issue of world education.     People can help with this problem by raising money, donating school supplies, providing teachers in new schools, and traveling to countries in need to build strong schools.  This will help children all over the world receive a good education.

On my hexagon I drew school supplies that hopefully one day children all over the globe will be able to use once education spreads to every part of the world.  I also drew flags to represent the each country that deserves to learn.  Finally I wrote inspirational words that make people want to help with this world issue, including educate, world, children, potential, school, learn, and important.

The worldwide issue that i chose to represent was health care. People who live in countries effected by poverty, are not able to afford proper health care. Such as, vaccinations, antibiotics, and specific care for harmful or deadly diseases. Such as malaria, cancer, and leukemia, and many more that can kill millions. These problems are being resolved by having skilled doctors flown from all over the world. And these doctors are given quality tools, vaccinations, and medicines.
In my work of art I used the national health care symbol to show that anywhere in the world there can be an issue with health care. I also put two broken hearts with a bandage to show that even the worst health problem can be fixed. I also put a quote going around the edges of the hexagon saying, "One doctors appointment can save a life." Which shows with a simple doctors appointment every few months, you can add a tremendous amount of years to your life.

My project is called The cure to health care, because we need to solve health care because all around the world we are being affected. I used paints and colored pencils in my project to make all of the colors pop because I did not want my painting to be dull. There are many programs and charities to help solve Worldwide health care such as, The American Health Care Association. They help to raise money to solve these many problems around the world.

“One Earth”

The media I used was oil pastels and tissue paper to illustrate nature conservation.  I chose this because I thought that oil pastels would be good to illustrate the leaves falling down.  I tried to show that trees are being cut down.  The leaves were falling into the tissue paper which represents a fire.

The worldwide impact of this issue is that people are cutting down trees all around the world.  Many habitats and homes are being torn down.  Forests give animals shade, shelter, food, water, and a home.  This isn’t fair to all the animals whose homes are being torn down.  Not just trees, but nature is being destroyed.  For example, water and pollution are also the main causes of this.  We have one earth to enjoy and in order to enjoy it we need to take care of it.  Some organizations such as WWF and nature conservancy are trying to perserve nature.  They are doing many things like showing people how to live a greener life and showing them to balance people with nature.  Also kids are taking part in special days like Global Youth Service Day and many others to try to make the world a better place to live in.  Everyone can help with this by recycling and not polluting.  I know I wouldn’t like it if someone destroyed my home and made it unsafe for me to live in.

I am trying to illustrate that leaves are falling which represents trees being cut down.  The leaves are falling into the fire which represents people burning forests.  This symbolizes my issue because people are ruining nature such as forests.

For my Interdependence project, I chose the issue of nature conservancy, and what is happening to our environment. All over the world rainforests, woodlands, and other areas are being destroyed. Trees are cut down, and burned. This is a huge issue because this leaves millions of wild animals without homes, and destroying our beautiful ecosystem.

To illustrate this issue, I divided my hexagon into three different sections. The first, and largest, was what a small meadow with a few trees should, and used to look. The lower half was divided into two sections. One was a picture of the same area at the top, but it was cut down and destroyed because of an excessive need for paper products in the world. The last part was the same area, but instead of being healthy and beautiful, it was burning in a raging fire and nobody was trying to stop it. I used oil pastels, and markers to create my hexagon. The colors I used were a glorified version of how nature looks.  Some organizations like the WWF are trying to help this issue by planting trees, or raising money.

I teach with Emily Cook in a Chicago suburban school. While my students have learned about global issues in the past, this project allowed them to see that these are not problems that people in other places in the world have to deal with, but rather, that these are world problems, and since we all have a civic responsibility to the world, these are our problems too.
