My name is Michael Olson and the name of my art work is Death of the Innocent. The media I used in my piece were colored pencils, cardboard,  and printed sayings from the Internet. The world wide significance is that war will always kill those who are innocent.  I care because many people who are killed in war do not deserve to die.  The red river on the mask symbolizes all the innocent blood spilt. The tears symbolize the grief of the lost loved ones families. The broken heart symbolizes the hearts broken by war and the families killed or wiped off the face of the Earth. The orange symbolizes the destruction caused by war.

I think choosing the color orange was a good idea. We see orange warning signs on the roads all the time and here you're using it to warn us on a much larger scale. The images of the rivers and the broken heart are excellent!

While my students have learned about global issues in the past, this project allowed them to see that these are not problems that people in other places in the world have to deal with, but rather, that these are world problems, and since we all have a civic responsibility to the world, these are our problems too.
