Due to the 9/11 tragedy, a total of 2, 996 people died. This is just one of the many terrorist attacks that have happened around the world. Not only have these attacks caused great damage to the environment but they have also caused depression and grief to the families of the people that died. While searching for information about this topic, I read numerous stories about families dealing with specifically the relatives lost in 9/11. I felt strongly that more needed to be done about this issue. However, as I was thinking further about this topic, I thought/researched all the solutions the U.S. came up to prevent more terrorist attacks. Some new technology I found that was designed to reduce the amount of terrorism were body scanners, bag detector, and chemical detectors in airports. Therefore in my hexagon I included the issue, but I also included the United States’s response to the attacks. In the background of the hexagon was the New York Skyline where the twin towers were burning from the plane crash. In the foreground of the hexagon I put the Statue of Liberty symbolizing the U.S.’s strength and bravery during and after the attacks. Within the Statue of Liberty I put quotes about how the U.S. has improved their security after the attacks. These quotes said, “In the wake of the unprecedented terrorist attacks, Congress took steps to strengthen the security of the nation’s transportation systems.” Also in the Statue of Liberty there was a statistic which stated, “At least 30 terrorist plots against the U.S. have been foiled since 9/11. The U.S. has made major efforts toward working for a safer country especially in the transportation area.

I used paint for the background to add color and attract the eye. I then used black and grey construction paper for the New York skyline as well as the wings of the plane in 9/11 . I did this to make it pop out rather than using more paint which would make it blend in. For the fire and smoke, I used shiny paper which made it look like the buildings were actually burning from the plane crash. I printed out an image of the Statue of Liberty to make it look real rather than drawing it. Inside I cut out quotes which were explained above. Terrorism is a major global issue. Although many solutions have been thought of to prevent more attacks, it is necessary that we continue to strengthen our security.
