                  The Real Front Line
The world wide significance of my artwork depicts how much violence and war effects not only the soldiers, but the innocent people around them. This is important to me because these innocent people have so much to live for, and it is all taken away when their areas become war torn. I used pictures of soldiers with little kids, symbolizing the devastation caused to a still-developing generation. I used the lyrics from John Mayer’s song “Belief” around the edges because they accurately display the effects behind the war and the people involved. I used the broken heart to display just that, the heartbreak war causes. No one should have to go through these emotions and troubles. Especially not at such a young age.

There are 15 million children that die every year due to starvation alone. To create this hexagon project I used; picture from the internet, construction paper, and a sharpie. My pictures are either of happy or sad kids in Africa . One picture shows a logo for Feed my Starving Children. Feed my Starving Children is an organization that helps out kids all over the world . This isn’t the only organization but probably one of the ones that has had the biggest impact in the world.  This issue has been around way before 1985. Even with all the organizations that exist, the problem still occurs.

On my hexagon it includes a quote and a statistic as well. The quote says “If you can’t feed a hundred people then feed just one.”- Mother Teresa. Which basically means to always help the hungry. And the statistic says “ Every year 15 million children die from starvation.” This problem disgusts me to know that kids out there have hardly any fat on their bodies.  When I’m older or maybe soon I would love to help out the kids in need and try to put a stop to this occurring problem. I hope to see this problem decrease within my lifetime and I would like to at least have been apart of it to resolve it.

Starvation
By: Charlie C.

Starvation is a major issue in the world. Especially in Africa. One out of seven people go hungry each night and 10.7 million children under the age of 5 die each year of starvation. Those numbers are outrageous! People deserve to have food and live a good life. Joining organizations is a great way to help. Espicially, Feed My Starving Children. It is a great organization and is also fun! In my artwork, I displayed three pictures of hungry children to show how depressing it is to see what starving children look like. I also wrote two phrases on my hexagon. Make a difference and help the children. We should all be doing that to make children happier. The media I used for my artwork was pictures from the internet. I used three pictures of hungry children. I also drew an apple with a slash through it indicating that the children have no food to eat. My hexagon is important to me because I think this issue is very important and we should do something about it. Children also die in the U.S. We are the wealthiest country in the world and people still die from starvation. No one thinks about that. If we did think about it, then people might actually do something. This is one of the world’s most critical issues. If we all do something about it, the world would be a better place.

Stop Hunger.
Starvation needs to stop! The concern/ problem of the picture that i chose to represent is a girl that is eating bread she is from Africa and she and her parents cannot afford food so they barely don't have anything to eat. This is important for me because a lot of kids everyday. Every year 15 million die of hunger. Also 5.6 seconds someone dies of hunger. The parents are also upset because there children died or if the parents died and one of the children doesn't know what to do without there family.

For my work of art I wrote Stop Hunger Now! I wrote that because I don't want starving children to die. I want the everyone to help them get more food so they wont be hungry. I drew Africa, and also a octagon and inside of it is  water and some land/places and some in those places have children that are starving. I also did the background a sad color witch is gray because its sad when kids are starving and going to die. This is what i drew and i want Starvation to stop.

Stop Starvation Now!

Stop Bullying

Bullying is described as repeated aggressive behavior used to hurt another person, either physically or mentally. This is a major issue in our society today because of the effects of it. Bullying can make kids feel worthless or useless, and sometimes it is so bad they want to commit suicide. I feel that it is important because it is only getting worse, and the amount of kids that have felt bullied is shocking. Statistics show that about 77 percent of students have admitted to being the victim of one type of bullying or another, and these numbers are only rising. Bullying needs to be stopped, and many organizations are doing things to help. But we need to step in too and take action to stop this. If you feel that someone or yourself is being bullied, do something about it to stop it. Whether its getting an adult or pulling them out of the situation, it can make a major impact on the person. Please help stop the billions or tears that have been shed from bullying, and take action to stop it today.

My hexagon represents the tears shed from bullying, which is one of the effects of it. To make it, the materials I used were paint, markers, glitter glue, paper, pencils, and glue. What i drew was an eye crying, and for every tear drop I put some words that a bully might have said to make these tears happen in the first place. It shows that every tear shed was from something mean that a bully has said to made an effect on them. I put the glitter around the significant things in the hexagon to make them stand out. I also added a quote because I felt that it was inspirational and wise.

Global warming is a big issue around the world. Not only are people being affected by global warming, but sea life and animals are too. Global warming causes the earth to be hotter. As a result it: dries up the earth making it hard to farm, melts glaciers and ice, causing animals like polar bears to drown, and can kill sea life in the Barrier Reef when water temperature gets too hot. Also, the
change in weather causes water to rise and flood islands making it inhabitable
to live at. Some ways to help stop Global Warming is: reduce, reuse and recycle
products, drive less, and plant trees. In my artwork I drew an earth on fire to
represent global warming making the earth hotter. I also drew some really dry
land with cracks, because global warming is drying up land around the world.
This topic is important to me, because I love animals, and global warming is
affecting how they live, like in Antarctica. I want to help stop Global warming
not only for the animals, but because some people are affected by it as well and
can it be a life threatening situation. The media I used was colored pencils and
sharpies.

In America, a rough 750,000 men, women, and children are without a home on any night. Approximately, 3.5 million people in America experience homelessness within a years time. Many elements were used to create my hexagon. I used dark colors of paint for the buildings. I chose dark paint because homelessness is not a positive concept. I used aluminum foil for a shopping cart because I have seen homeless people who transport their things this way. All of these items were apart of my way to show how bad homelessness is affecting the world. I used glitter, glitter glue, and pastel sharpies to show that there are things being done to demolish try to homelessness. I painted homeless people because they show how bad the economy has gotten and are the ones being affected by homelessness. I also painted a food pantry to show that people are helping the homeless. Things that are helping the homeless are shelters, food pantries, and also supportive housing. I added newspaper on my hexagon to show how big of a problem homelessness is becoming. In the news, they have all of the major news, and homelessness is becoming a major problem. Homelessness affects so many people all over the world. It is difficult for people who are homeless to get proper health care, rest, food, shelter, being clean and staying warm . Most of these things we take advantage of, for homeless people probably  taking a shower is luxury. This problem affects me because I want the world to improve. Even donating a few things can make a difference.

Many people all over the world can be affected by racism.People all over the world are being made fun because of the way their skin is. Racism is a big issues, many people say that racism isn't around anymore but it very much is. Whenever you make fun of a person on how they look talk and the color of their skin that is racism. You hear people make fun of a divers group they are being racist. They may say that they're not racist but they are. When you think of a picture to represent racism you may think of Martin Luther King jr. or people going to a room that says colored this many not around now but people still are like not in public but its still there. A sun rise could be used to describe the issue. The sun rises meaning a new time the sun set of racism and the sun rise where we can live together as divers. Dark colors are used to show the sadness of  what is happening and happy colors can be used to show the hope where racism can stop. The issue has been getting smaller due to many programs: American Instituted for Diversity, and The Center of Equal Opportunity. In my hexagon I have used a sort of sun set paper to represent the end of racism. I also used various colors of paper that represented people's ethnicity. The words on my hexagon show racism in different languages show it happens all over the world and if we work all together we can stop racism.

A Tear in her Eye
By MIke S.

The name of my hexagon is A Tear in her Eye.  It depicts the Statue of Liberty crying with the smoke over New York City on 9/11 in the background.  She is crying because of the devastation caused by these attacks.  The hexagon symbolizes how America was saddened by the events that occurred on September 11, 2001.
Almost 3,000 people died on that day, and 2.5 million perished in wars that were started in response to this attack.  It was the first attack on American Soil since the bombing of Pearl Harbor at the start of World War II.  However, while being the worse attack, this was not the only one.  Between 1968 and 2006, 4,165 Americans were killed by terrorist attacks.

While we have made great strides towards eliminating organized terrorism, such as killing Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden, this is still an issue that is effecting us today.  Just last month, Ambassador Chris Stevens was killed in Libya by Al-Qaeda militants.  More needs to be done to minimize people joining these terrorist groups in the Middle East.  These recruits are vulnerable because they know nothing will ever become of their lives so when they are told that they can serve Allah (the God in Islam) and live in heaven in a warrior’s paradise, they jump at the chance.  While this is crazy and simply a way to hurt Americans, these people do not know that.  There needs to be groups that help improve the quality of life in the Middle East so they can complete school and get a good career.  This way they can hope for something better for themselves and not be susceptible to join extremist groups such as Al-Qaeda.

I chose a dark background to represent how devastating terrorism is, and made the Statue of Liberty bright to show that not all hope is lost and organized terrorism can be ended.  I used Adobe Fireworks and Adobe Photoshop to complete this project because I knew I could a.

I chose to research this issue because I was surprised and horrified by the attacks in Libya that have recently occurred.

9/11 was a tragic event that shocked America. It was when the terrorist group Al Qaeda took over 2 airplanes and crashed them into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center. This was a horrible thing that should've never happened. What i used for my hexagon was colored pencils and markers. I also used cotton and colored in black, to represent the smoke coming out of the building. I chose use the markers to outline, then I used the colored pencils to color it in. I chose the cotton so I could bring the smoke to life on my hexagon. This is not just an American issue, but also a worldwide issue. I think that because other countries of the world fear terrorism just as we do. The U.S is doing a lot to prevent this issue. Airports have gotten very tight on what you can and can't bring on the plane, and also there body scan technology has gotten alot better. This issue is important to me because when 9/11 occurred, though i was too little to remember, I was still alive and I still feel strongly about this tragic event that killed many innocent people. I drew an American Flag in the background, then the Twin Towers in front of the flag. Then i glued the cotton coming out of the building to look like it was burning. I did all of these things in front of the American Flag because the buildings being hit was an American tragedy. I drew the smoke because in the picture i chose, there was smoke coming out of the building. Overall, I think this is a huge issue. 9/11 is one of the biggest most tragic events the U.S has ever experienced.
