One big issue that affects people all over the world is homelessness. In 2000, 700,000 to two million people were homeless in America alone. Even though it is not specifically known where the percentage of homeless people are at its highest, it is thought to be in India. About 44% are single men, 36% are families, 13% are single women, and 7% is unaccompanied minors. There are a couple programs formed to help this cause. For example, the Habitat for Humanity is an organization formed to build homes for people without one. A different program is Do Something that includes many different community service ideas, some including helping the homeless, like holding a blanket drive. Also many community churches give food and lets them sleep overnight. Lastly, the government has set up soup kitchens, shelters, and subsidized apartments.

In my hexagon, I showed six eyes along the hexagon’s six sides and a giant tear in the middle of the teardrops. I showed many different eye colors to show how many different people are affected. It is known that 50% of people homeless are African American, 35% are white, 12% are Hispanic, 2% are Native American, and 1% is Asian.  I tried to show darker colors like blue and purple to make it more sad and effective. I chose the quote, “People who are homeless are not social inadequates. They are people without homes” because it showed that homeless people aren’t different from you and me. They may have just had some really bad times and needs help getting back up on their feet. The tear represented the tragedy and hopelessness the homeless people must be feeling or going through.                          Emily B.

I like your idea of the big tear in the center of the eyes!

Emily, I liked how you incorporated your statistics into your symbolism.
