“From their eyes” by Rebecca M.
Bullying effects 282,000 students every month, and hurts so many children that 15% of them will skip school out of fear. Bullying is when a treacherous person is cruel and mean to another person for the glory of making them feel worse about themselves. People are becoming more and more aware of this problem and are starting anti-bullying clubs and raising awareness so that the problem may cease to exist. One particular awareness group is called the “Bully Project.” This group is based on the movie “The Bully” and it addresses the problems that bullying victims face everyday. About 56% of all students have witnessed bullying, and this year over 13 millions will be bullied and 3 million will not be present at school because of it. Not to mention the suicide risks that are most of the time accompanied by bullying. Over one half of suicide victims kill themselves due to bullying. That equals about 44% of ten to fourteen year old children commit suicide due to bullying every year.

For my project I used mainly pen along with black, gray, and white metallic hues to portray the symbolic hurt that bully victims feel. The outline is a reflective metallic silver paper that symbolizes the mirror that so many victims look into and wonder. The crying eyes are the tears so often shed by the people hurt by bullies, or the people who were friends from a suicide victim due to bullying. The quote, "To thine own self be true" is a quote by William Shakespeare and it means that you should be yourself and I felt that this had to do with bullying a LOT.

Bullying is not only an American issue, it is a worldwide problem affecting lives today. Many people live their daily lives without the insight that bullying does exist everywhere and some ignore the facts and the statistics and it is causing peoples' lives. If you know someone that is bullied or is a bully, put a stop to it because it makes a serious impact. From their eyes, you'll be a hero in contrast to those bullies that hurt them on a daily basis.
